Golden Bowl Publications was established in 2023 as an outlet through which its owner, Travis W. Lewis of Lexington, Tennessee, has chosen to publish many of his writings and other memorabilia accumulated during the span of his more than sixty-year-long working and teaching careers. The name, “Golden Bowl”, has been chosen as reference from The Holy Bible, Ecclesiastes 12, as its writer, in allegory, alludes to a “golden bowl” being broken. Lewis interprets the “golden bowl” as referring to the treasury of memory stored in the mind of every individual, yet, at a point during the process of aging, the bowl begins to crack, at which point memories begin to seep out and escape forever.
The goal of Golden Bowl Publications is to preserve and pass on those memories and writings to posterity. Lewis states, “My prayer is that someone finds value in the observations I have stored, then recorded and left behind.”
Lewis’s publications began in earnest with his own autobiography, I Was A Sharecropper’s Son, self-published in 2023 and made available at various points on this website. Other works are in process of being posted in the form of essays, short stories, biblical lesson outlines, poems, and photos as Golden Bowl Publications develops.
